Ah- back on track

I got back on track Wednesday. I was able to make it to Crossfit and Spin. What I didn't fit in was a swim. I'm a little concerned but life got in the way (yay kids!) but it's not like I'll drown, I just don't swim pretty.

Today will be an interesting Juggle. Last day of family in town and I forgot to set my alarm clock this morning so no morning swim or work out. Alas, this is life isn't it? A morning at the park, afternoon and evening with family - those are my priorities today.

I forgot....

I had big plans to wake up and take on the world... until I got that reminder phone call the kids had their dentist appointments this morning... so no morning workout for me... OOPPS. I did manage to get in a 30 swim this evening... It wasn't stressful or hard but it was something... Now, back on plan tomorrow morning!

This whole planning, scheduling and being organized has it's moments.

This Week's Plan - Adjusted

Well the good news is that I can back down on training... seems I'm a little over-zealous! Unfortunately, I backed down a little too much - but that's life right? Lizzie only turns 5 years old once, and I've capitalized on it! I had big plans for yesterday and today but only managed to attend Crossfit. I'll make up tomorrow. :-) Love my baby girl! Happy Birthday Lizzie!

This Week's Plan 8.4-8.10

Life is already picking up for us! I'm focusing on movement (getting myself ready for the Frantic Frog only 34 Days), I'll have family in town a couple of days and getting the kids ready for school. The summer is in full swing and we have tall grass, a happy energetic dog and a things-to-do list a mile long. So I need a plan - gone are are the days where I'll get it done at some point. (I emailed this to the my Tri 102 coaches for imput so it's subject to change).

The Plan -
Sunday 4 - Swim & 5k Run
Monday 5 - Swim, Crossfit, Spin, Pilates
Tuesday 6 - Make up Tri 102
Wednesday 7 - Swim, Crossfit, Spin, Pilates
Thursday 8 - Swim, 5k Run
Friday 9 - Crossfit, Spin,  ?
Saturday 10 - Guntersville
Sunday 11 - Rest

I have got to improve my swim and run - so If I can, I'll be sneaking in a short run here and there.  At this point my triceps are still hurty - even with the icy hot, so I'm hoping they magically heal through the night. I'd like to rub my eye or eat without hurting.

Alright - off to cuddle with my kids!

25 Miles!

Today was the Summer Sizzler Metric Century Ride in New Hope, AL. absolutely beautiful area. There were plenty of acreages on sale along the ride which allowed me to dream about living out in the county! I chose to ride 25 miles but I had amazing friends who rode 45 and 75 miles.

Who was happy they took a rest day yesterday? THIS GIRL!

While I shorted myself a work out day. I don't know that I would have been able to do today's bike ride with the vigor I had. Cause I got tired! I imagine 45 miles would have done me in. At least I know when I wake up tomorrow, I can move.

The first 12 miles made it all seem possible. The last 1/2 of the ride gave new meaning to rolling hills.

Here is a link to the map to give you an idea of the elevation. 25 mile- http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/103214115

The above picture is of us starting out. It's proof that I start off like a drunk beginner... notice the area I've cleared around me.

Proof I showed up.

I did have a good time. Now that it's over and I took a nap, I'm happy I did it. I questioned myself a few times mainly on the last big hill as a walked my bike. However, I really do enjoy riding my bike out in the country. I love the sites, sound of the wind and the odd smells. Looking at the road kill was kind of fun too!

I was unsure if I would know anyone (and if anyone would acknowledge me) but it turned out fantastic. Familiar faces passed me and at the rest stop I had a great conversation with a few people. Overall, it was a great experience!

added: I forgot to mention that my triceps HURT!  It hurt to lift my arms/hands to push my glasses up on my face. When you don't have a strong core, riding a road bike turns into one LONG push up. I finally admitted it was hurty and applied some Icy Hot. I'm hoping that helps it enough that I can give it a good stretch here in a little and work that all out. The the very least, Icy Hot is a nice distraction from the pain.

Ouch

Somewhere around 3am this morning it was clear today was going to be a rest day. While Yoga did help, my arms (triceps) are killing me. I need them for the bike ride tomorrow and I don't want to wear them out for swimming, so Friday is a rest day. I shut off my alarm and slept in. It was nice. No lie. However, It's not like I slept in late. 7am and I'm playing legos. :-) It's close to 9pm and I still struggle to raise my arms... they just hurt. Stretching is a good hurt but still ouchy! Did I mention OOOOOUCHY?!?!?! I'm hoping they will be better by tomorrow.

Thursday - Slower Day

Wednesday Evening was a wonderful pre-birthday party for Lizzie. The kids went to sleep happy and I was able to crash by 10pm... seems to be a pattern. My body is feeling the aches and that made sleeping a little challenging. I felt like (but didn't) I needed to do some stretching/yoga to get the uncomfortable out. I have a feeling that I'll have this for the next couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to what people describe as "good pain".... I'm not there yet.

Thursday Morning turned into a rest time. I'm not sure if I'll regret it or not, but having a restless night and not a busy day planned, I figured I could take the kids to the YMCA at some point and knock out my swim and run. The morning turned out be be a much needed chill time with the kids. I surfed the internet, we had birthday cake for snack and everyone seemed in a good mood.

We arrive at the YMCA and was greeted with this on the door.

Yes- that is a no guns sign... I'm not sure what happened to need to post but really?

I get in and realize I forgot socks for the kids. $2 later I have 2 pairs of socks for the kids, they are happy playing and I go to the pool. The first family changing room I go to SMELLS LIKE DIRTY DIAPER. It's gross. I can't stomach it past 30 seconds. I leave. I have to deal with the public woman's room but that's better than smelling urine, so I've settled down. :-) I get my swim gear together and I realized I forgot my cap.. again... I get in the pool and do my drills 45 minutes later and I feel successful. My drills were good but tiring. I had to break every 25m but considering it's my 3rd swim back, I'm still ok with it. Once drills were done I faced the freestyle head on. This always makes me nervous. so I gave myself a talk... I know what to do. I've seen how to do it. Now I just need to put the puzzle together. after about 100m it started to come together. another 50m and I felt tired but good. Then, the 8 year old life guard kicked me out of the pool for water aerobics. So... over all... it was a good swim.

I went into the steam room and laid down. The steam felt so good. all of a sudden I hear a POP! I freak out because I think it's a gun! after a second I realize it was my water bottle snapping from the heat! Got me up though- so I began my stretching. It's so easy to stretch in the heat.

Brought the kids home and had a low key afternoon. Once the hubs got home I went back to the YMCA. Maybe a bit obsessive but I have 2 weeks to get myself to where I was before and hopefully a little better. I'm not there yet.

Total Core - 20 minutes of ab hell. The 20 something instructor was full of energy as she modeled and talked through what to do. To her credit, she filled those 20 minutes with props so you were distracted  and didn't realize you were doing the same thing repeatedly. We used a mat, step on a slope, Big Ball, weights and our abs. OUCH.

At the end of Total Core I could feel my blood sugar dropping. I hadn't brought any snacks (just water) so I grabbed a chocolate chip cliff bar from the vending machine. It was easy to eat, tasted alright and I was surprised at how I didn't have any issues with it. about 10 minutes later I was feeling normal again. I'm going to have to go buy a stash of those!

Spin- 60 minutes of peddling (we did 20 miles). It was called "Fast 30" and all about the 30 second surges. These came every 10 minutes.... so if you do the math, that was 5 with the last 10 being a cool down. This also included 3-10 minute hills and 1 warm up and 1 cool down hill. "Michelle" must be a preacher - cause she had quotes and scriptures falling out her mouth. It dawned on me that I should make a mental note of the one-liners and quotes - but there were just too many to remember. I guess you'll have to show up to her class to hear them.

With Spin over, I realized I needed something else. The Cliff Bar had been spent so I opted for a Coconut Water. It was awesomely refreshing, hit the system quickly and by the time Yoga started, I was ready. I already have Coconut Water in my stash so I need to make a point to make sure I have some in my gym bag.

Yoga - um. this lady doesn't have time for beginners - so I had to take the initiative to scale it down. I just couldn't do all the pressure on my shoulders. On a good day I would struggle, today they ache- really bad. It fact, with everything, my triceps hurt the worst. I followed along decently but there were a few time when my thighs and arms just couldn't play with the big boys and I had to stop and rest. I did see a familiar face in the group so that was really nice!

Needless to say I came home tired, hungry and not prepared for Lizzie to be awake. She had a tough time when I left (tears, lots of hugs and love-yous). So for her to be awake, well, it just wasn't want I wanted to deal with. I did though. I put her in her bed, laid beside her. We both relax... and then I got freezing cold. I problem I've talked about before. Once I hit shivering I got up (waking Lizzie) and jumped into a very hot shower. 20 minutes later I stepped out of the shower to Lizzie being awake again.... I had her cuddle with Scott while I grabbed some food. We cuddled in the bed and watched a little tv - she conked out soon after. Here I am.. sharing my day. And yes, my triceps/arms hurt still. I can barely lift them off the keyboard. I think I'll call it a night!
