It's taken me a little to find the passion to write this post. It's bittersweet. I couldn't do my goal Triathlon this past weekend. After being unable to train for the last 3 weeks, I left like I was missing out. Not being able to do the Tri was disheartening...
My inlaws helped me out last week by watching the kids So I was able to do basic training and attend the Triathlon. It was so encouraging to watch my classmates "Get what they came for!". They did it! So many faced their fears, pushed their limits and found a renewed sense of self and community. It was beautiful!
The good news is that I can start training mid July. Right now I can't do any toe bending activities. My boot is off though! WOOT!
I'll be back here to post periodically and then get back when I start Training with the Triathlon 102 class. This class is all about Open Water Swim and a longer bike ride..... I'm looking forward to it!

Monday - How do you treatment?
Well, it's on me really. I stayed up late practicing my Chinese. So when my alarm clock went off this morning for Boot camp - I lost my mind and slept through it. Woke up reasonable rested. I guess 5am when you go to bed at 1am is no longer happening for me (remember the days when you were young and could pull it off no problem?).
Tonight is the last Tri 101 Practice before the big race on the weekend. Bitter Sweet.

Happy Father's Day!
Father's Day was a great day. While I couldn't be with my own Father, I was able to hang out with the in-laws. This always means walking. :-) Mission Accomplished. It was just walmart and then up on my feet attacking my laundry pile, but I got some basic movement in. That's a perk. I'm gaining weight with this little -no exercise thing I'm doing right now. Im looking forward to being active!

June 15th - A Day is a Day
We Bought a Fridge! WOOOOOT. It will be here Tuesday. Life is different when you don't have a fridge. We ended up with a little fancier model than the basic model I had originally planned on getting, however, I think we will love it. We found a model with a "fourth door". This is all for Scott and his chilled Dr. Pepper. Now, lots of prayer that it lasts a little longer than the last one.
As for our eating habits of late, we have apples & bananas (usual) with almond/peanut/nutella for dipping. Meals have been out or frozen fast food. We ate at Carraba's yesterday. The kids each got a kid's meal but what was their favorite thing on the plate? Buttered Penne Noodles. So, at the grocery store, we bought penne noodles and had buttered noodles so supper... Something so simple... My kids were thrilled! I had the Chicken Trio and ate the left overs last night. YUMMY! The goat cheese & chicken was delicious.
There has been no exercise or extra movement from me. After the Point Mallard experience, I'm hurting again so I'm taking it easy.
Looking forward to Father's Day!

June 13th & 14th - Point Mallard
June 13 became family day at Point Mallard to the Corbins. Kroger was hosting a company picnic and Scott took off work. It started off well enough. Then we got a call that our fridge is indeed broken and we needed to buy a new one. OUCH. Then 9am turned to 9:30am and there was no way we were making it to Point Mallard "on time" at 10am. We did a quick stop at subway for breakfast (ew) and then onward to Point Mallard. The Lazy River was just that Lazy. I managed my toe just fine. We did that for about an hour. Then Lizzie wanted the wave pool.... I should have thought twice but I didn't... I lasted about 5minutes before I came limping in. With each wave I had to use my toe to grip. OUCH...... After that I was done... Jerry & Jennie, Scott, Lizzie & Jack went to the kiddie pool and I got dressed. I was done.
We enjoyed the Kroger Picnic and then it was off to find a fridge. OMG... There was one model on sale at every store... a little suspicious.... but really... The kids had lost their mind on store 4 so we came home... I got the kids washed and ready to bed... I cuddled with them and fell asleep. OOPS... Left Scott to fend for himself.
So it was a long day. It was exhausting. It was so worth it.
June 14th was an early start. 4:30am. This means that I had to FORCE Jack to take a nap and Lizzie is past tired. I'm hoping tomorrow will bring back our normal routine and life will be good again. We still don't have a fridge- so that's on the agenda....

June 12th
5am came all to quick this morning. I was up late hangin' out with mommas. Jack woke up 4:58am so I shut off my alarm clock and laid down with him. I quickly realized I would fall back asleep so I did the tuck-the-blanket-around-him, shove a pillow close by ninja move and headed to the shower. A shower is what i needed. I was out the door on time and ready to work out.
The Warm up- While the group did their thing with 2 good feet - I rowed 500m... We practiced wall balls for the skill drill and then went to the WOD.
"Fight Gone Nomad"
1 min Box Jumps - or Squats for me 10, 10, 8
1 min Sumo Dead Lift High Pulls 16 (me trying to be a super hero with 26lb), 10, 7
1 min Wall Balls 7, 10, 7
1 min Push Press -kettle bells 8, 10, 10
1 min Row for Calories 10, 6, 8
1 min Rest
x3 =134 (crossfit math) 137 = (at home and rested math)
I thought I was a super hero and did 26lb kettle bell for the push press which was my downfall. I couldn't get my heart out of my throat for the rest of the workout. Seriously... at 15minutes after the workout I checked my heart rate and it was still in the 120s/min. 25 minutes later is was back to normal. lesson learned... pick up the 18lb kettle bell for the moment... You can always go up, but recovering quickly is next to difficult.
The morning was filled with friends and thrift shopping. Score big this morning! Afternoon was the fridge repair dude telling me I have to wait at least a day. The evening is a moms night out.. again...
Here's to a successful day!

June 11
I'm not sure where to start. For those following my physical journey - I was "resting". Monday I did a Crossfit workout. I scaled it in half because I didn't think I could do it... Well, then I was kicking myself because I realized I could have done it! I cheated myself! UGH.
Today I went to the pool and floated for about 15 minutes. I did a little work out with my arms but nothing too serious. I did sit in the steam bath for 20 minutes and then the sauna for another 30.
I haven't gotten my diet back on track and now our fridge is in need of a doctor. However, I have had a great time having drinks with the Tri 101 crew. Watching the Tri 101 from the side lines has been fun and educational. Watching Form, cadence, attitude - it's all good. I'm looking forward to get back out there with everyone!
I've had a great time sleeping this week. I have slept 8-10 hours almost every day. I've taken it easy and have had a chance to seek God on a few topics I've been holding out on. I had a great time enjoying all the awesomeness that God is.

Scripture of the Day
Today has continued to be a God-Day... Ron Marquardt posted the following scripture on FB. It truly describes me and the goal of my heart.
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
– Proverbs 19:21
Amen.
Crossfit "Boot" Camp Week 1
Monday was interesting. I didn't know the status of my toe and I tried.
Time 11:02 - 8rounds of 75m row & 15 air squats.
a
My thighs felt it all week.
Wednesday - I just couldn't get my act together. My toe was ouchy and my mindset sucked.
Today - Friday - We stretched (love a foam roller). Did our warm ups.
Partner WOD
Then 12 minutes AMRAP.
100m run (carrying a weighted ball) for me 100m Row
Sumo Dead-lift with Kettle Bells (our weight 18lbs)
The count was based on the Kettle Bell Reps... we reached 176.
My shoes are uneven... so I felt the lifts in my right leg. I felt the rowing in my left leg... We'll see how this thing goes!
oh.. and when she called it - I would attempt 3 push ups. The road was ouchy but the wall took too long to get too.

The End of Day 6
Today was a much better day. I slept 10 hours last night and I swear, it was all about healing. My mind was better (I think I'm fighting a bit of change of plans - broke my toe- depression). My toe wasn't throbbing. My kids were in a good mood. I stayed in my pjs until the afternoon, showered, and then put on fresh pjs. Pizza was supper. It was a good day. I think I needed this down time for my mind as well as my toe.
This was suppose to be my week for momentum. Now it's a week of rest.
The hubs and I have a repeat conversation that goes something like.. 3-4 weeks of resting, taking it easy and babying my toe is better than a life time of hurt and a retirement of complaining about my toe, how much it hurts/aches or worse, it limiting what I can do. So for the next month, it's about healing. This weekend I listened to a sermon on Worship. Letting go of my agendas aka healing my toe, and just hanging out with God and who he is. http://vimeo.com/66658086 Tonight Scott played video games with the kids and I was able to have an impromptu praise & worship time. It was soul healing. I was able to shake off the expectation I had for myself. Chill out and hear the voice of God. It's awesome to be reminded of His love. His passion for my life and the things I love - what what - he gave me those desires?!?!?! The biggest - to forgive myself for being so nervous and hurting myself in the first place. I hadn't stopped to plug into his peace - I was in my own head - and it did me in. A tough lesson to learn the hard way. Alas, it was a great hour.

What ELSE happened at the The Great Escape
With all the hoopla about my toe, I haven't written what else I learned (Besides pick up your feet when you walk) during this triathlon. Some are repeats but I want to remember for later.
* Need a smaller Tri Bag. The bag I packed was just too big for the space. I did learn, At Monday Night's Tri 101 class, that I can use the same brand (Thirty One) bag but a smaller version that I own.
* Towels for a Transition Area Work... but I saw a yoga mat cut that I loved better! PLUS, as I have learned for experienced Tri-ers, if it does start raining, your towel can stay dry and your space is still ready to be set up.
*If there is a hit of rain - put everything in ziploc bags.
*Set up your Tri Area the way you practiced. Quick transition time and you know where your stuff is.
*Pack the extras (sun hat, ice water, sun glasses, number belt, snack bag, etc) be willing to forget or leave what isn't going to work for that day. Saw a momma running with a backpack- it was way to big- way to hot!
*Goggles - Smoke Goggles saved me at the outdoor pool. I happened to have a pair of each since I struggled to find goggles that fit and don't leak. Invest and practice with both. As a beginner, I am so glad I did. I hear people complaining about the sun hitting the water and throwing them off when they came up for a breath.
*Swim Cap - Silicon - just put the $$ into Silicon... Even with lots of hair. I think of it as putting on my superwoman cape for Tri. I didn't put it on for the Great Escape and I missed on the peace and focus that comes when I follow the tradition of wearing my cap in training. If you practice with a cap - use a cap. If they give one to you for the race- put it on top of your silicon cap. No Hair ripping that way.
*Being at the end is not so bad. There isn't so much "fight" with other competitors to get going. Even if people are faster at swim, they might not be on bike or run. You may only pass one person but I promise, it feels GREAT!
*When you get a chance, purchase a pair of tri shoes... my running shoes will never be the same.
*Underwear - Not granny cotton, but Running underwear... There is a thing called the Sliding Door Effect That happens when your ride your bike and don't have coverage... Just do it.
*Bras - No matter your size, biking and then running with no or little support isn't worth it. Plus, when someone passes you, all they can think about is how much you must be hurting... Just do it.
*Tri Suit - Whether you do a kit or one piece, totally worth the cash. Shop around and get one with pockets. Any longer of a Tri and I would have needed a pocket for a snack, gu or treat.
*Peppermint gum for the run. Helps you with your breath and breathing. I'm in!
*Be helpful. We've all be new to something before. If you can help someone - do it.
*Embrace the positive that comes with a race. Strangers will cheer you on. Friendly faces will pass you by. Be your encouragement and be the voice of encouragement to others. Whether they receive it well (mostlikely) or don't, you'll still be their fuel for a few steps towards the goal.
*Flip Flops - while on accident I packed 2 pairs, it was totally worth it. You'll need flip flops before the swim and after the run. I was informed that as I do longer races, I'll want the best flip flop for my foot- so if you need arch support, purchase Chacos or Merrell barefoots (or even more fancy more advanced flip flops) so that your feet can immediately heal, relax but with proper support.
*Extra Hair Ties - These things pop and break like crazy. Pack extras. If you don't need them, someone else will.
*French Braid or Low Pony Tails - You don't want to mess with your hair from start to finish. I'm told a French Braid holds well but since I don't have those skills I settled on a low pony tail. I thought I might have to mess with it after the ride but nope - it stayed put. One less thing to worry about.
*Helmet Safety - I'll be the first to admit I think it's hooey.... until this training. So first - wear it properly. covering your forehead = not tilted back. You can die smacking the pavement. Enough said.
*Sunscreen, Sun block - If you believe in it - wear it. For our little Tri - I didn't but I still got some sun. I can't imagine what a longer tri would do to me.
* Bug Spray - I didn't notice until the run... but it would have been handy...
*Sunglasses- I don't have a pair - but it would have been nice during the bike. between the wind & the sun, my eyes were hurting... and I biked in my every day glasses......
*Change of Clothes - Pack extra. You may find you want to wear your race shirt or maybe something completely different. Pack a small shower kit JUST in case there are showers. You'll love to at least wash the dirt off your feet before you go home.
*Ice - We were told this trick and it was wonderful. Freeze water in your bottles 1/3-1/2 - then in the morning, fill with cold drinking water. By the race it's all been melted and is still cold. Next time I'll freeze the whole bottle - it was so hot my water was turning room temp by the time it was done.. and I wanted more to drink.I'm informed that the insulated bottles are totally worth it!
*Electrolyte tabs - Pack them. You don't need to use them unless you feel you need to - but worth it. I really needed something on the bike. I hadn't eaten and the nerves settled mid-bike. I could have used a shot of something. By the run, I was just thirsty. I grabbed the Nuun (warm) water and it wasn't good. I just wanted water. Lesson Learned.
*Join local run groups for pictures - I'm lucky enough to have done a local race and had joined our local running community fb group. They took wonderful pictures that I will cherish forever! they had no idea who I was. So if you travel for races, grab a volunteer or organizer and ask where pictures will be posted. This is a very welcoming and sharing community!
*Finishing Protocol - No matter first or last - Sprint to the end, raise those arms and hoot & holler! You did it! Other people will not leave you hangin' in a cheer either! Be Your Own Best Cheerleader!
*Camera - Have someone snap pictures of you at Transition & at the finish-line. At the end of the race, take a picture with your friends and family.

The Big Toe Report - Day 5
Day 1 - Bruises. Pain. Swelling disbelief that it happened.
Day 2 - A run to Earth Fare for healthy stuff and then a day of propping the foot.
Day 3 - Crossfit Bootcamp, Truth Sets in Doc Says it's Broken/ Fractured. Boot acquired. Watch my friends practice Transitions without me (Swim, Bike Run) Then a Brick (Bike, Run- see I'm learning what all these words mean!). I took pictures of others and tried to remain engaged but frustrated.
Day 4- Thighs sore from Crossfit Boot Camp Air Squats, Boot Heavy. Took the kids to Harmony Park Safari but the little walking we did was tough. Rested for the afternoon & evening.
Day 5 - The night was rough. Toe achy with spasms of pain. Morning was not good. Tried to get ready for Crossfit Boot Camp and it wasn't happening. 15 minutes in getting ready and I crawled back into bed, propped the foot. Ugh. So frustrated at the moment. I realize it will take time to heal. I want it to heal properly and quickly so that I can move on. This knowledge does not limit the frustration. I feel like I'm taking 10 steps back from where I was going. I haven't take anything for pain yet. I don't want to take it and then not be aware if I do hurt it more. No masking here.... We'll see how good of a decision that is later on today. :-)

Swim Bike Mom
Here is an email I sent to the most inspiring blog - Swim Bike Mom http://www.swimbikemom.com/blog Meredith Atwood will be doing her first Ironman Coeur d’Alene. I am so excited for her!
Good Morning!
I wanted to share my story with you - figured you'd giggle with me!
Last fall I got the bug to do a Triathlon.... however, I've been sitting on the couch doing nothing tipping 200lbs. I manage to loose a few pounds by the end of the Christmas Season but on January 1st, I signed up for the Tri 101 Training at our local Fleet Feet. http://www. fleetfeethuntsville.com/ training/tri-101
. I had a couple months before the training officially started but that
didn't really motivate me to do much exercise... sure I talked about it
but didn't do much. This is when I was introduced to your website - A
friend shared with me the 4 rules - http://www.swimbikemom.com/ 2012/11/four-rules-period.html - This inspired me to read your book and everything I could on your website. I was hooked to your journey.
Fast Forward to Yesterday. I was a ball of nerves and ready to attempt my first Triathlon. I had been SOMEWHAT diligent at training but was no superhero. I'd lost 20lbs and was more proud of that than the actual Training for the Triathlon. I didn't sleep Friday Night but reminded myself I was going into this race without sabotaging myself... I was going to do it! Up Early and at the race. I couldn't eat anything. I was excited and nervous... did I mention I was nervous? Nervous. They called 15 minutes to race and I kicked of my flip flops and put them in my transition spot - proud I knew what a transition spot was! started walking to the pool and stubbed my toe on a curb. Seriously. OUCH. I immediately started to giggle and thought I would write you then - just to tell you I relate to the Swim. Bike. Mom. Klutz. thing.... But then it really started to hurt.
The Swim was cold and tough. I forgot what I had trained to do and ended up doing some sort of back stroke and then a frog type swim to get me to the finish. I got out of the pool and ouch... running to transition hurt! biking was hurty but by mile 3 I was at least not so nervous and was doing what we trained! Transition to Run HURT Worse but I kept on... I quickly learned running hurt going up hill so I hatched a new plan... running down hill, walking up... And then, like that... it was over. I completed my first Triathlon! http://decaturtriclub.com/ GreatEscape.aspx
it might have been a baby one (200meter Swim 8mile Bike 2mile Run)... just a fetal heart beat in comparison
to an Ironman, but it was my personal victory. I did it!
For shits and giggles - here's a picture of my toe after the race, my awesome boot and of course, Me - Crossing the Finish Line. I fractured my toe. I have to baby it and wear the boot for the next 3-4 weeks.
I want to thank you for inspiring me! Girls of all sizes can do this thing! Even the ones that are in the Klutz Family!
Keep it up! You have got this! Looking forward to stalking you at the Ironman. Please post your number so we can track you live. I'm so excited for you!

The Big Toe In Your Life
This Big Toe Madness is ridiculous. Seriously. I'm frustrated. I'm sad. I'm having to look at my summer with new glasses (no water part fun for 3 weeks). Who knew your big toe is so important? Who knew that it would take a HUGE Boot to fix the problem?
This got my thinking about other "Big Toes" in my world that I take for granted. Um... The Garbage Man... he could be seen as the Big Toe of Society.. can you imagine if he didn't come and pick up trash once a week? One day late and we suffer here. Policeman - um.. yeah... I appreciate what they do even if I don't interact with them on a daily basis. ok.. SO there are a lot of "Big Toes" around. Please remember to give them a thank you next time you notice them.... Cause if they were broken or not around... you'd be unhappy!

Fractured Toe
Yup!
Doc Says it's Fractured. I have to baby it in a big boot for the next 3 weeks and then see if I can do the Triathlon! So what does this mean?
*Wear Boot
*Baby Foot
*No Running or acts that could rock or bend my toe.....
*I can weight train/strength train
*I can hang out with my kids
*I can spin with no resistance
*I can swim
So the Sprint Triathlon is up in the air but I can still work around the Toe/Boot. Yippee!

My Adventures Over Lap
I' m so proud of myself for finishing the Triathlon yesterday. While it was a little one in comparison, it was my challenge and I did it. I finished! I have to thank y'all for voicing how you feel. The positive comments have made my weekend! Thanks for caring about me!
Now onto the Toe. It hurts but the inlaws came over, made lunch and watched the kids while I kept my foot up and napped. Scott found this book on my shelf and put it on my pillow. FUNNY.
Tomorrow my next adventure start. As y'all know, I have dabbled in Crossfit but I never commit. I'm not sure what it is but it scares me. Tomorrow I start a Crossfit bootcamp that I'm thrilled about. It runs MWF at 6-7am. I'm not sure how it works with my toe in it's condition but I can lift and row, just may not be able to run. Good thing Crossfit is all about scaling!

I Did It!
Many Titles swirled in my head but to sum it up- I Did It! I ran my first Triathlon and I'm super proud. I'll add my times when I get them from the hubs. My swimming was somewhere in the 7 minutes and my over all time was 1 hour 13 ish minutes. I Did It!
I didn't sleep last night. I was all nerves. Got out of bed at 4:30am, showered, we each got a kid ready, packed the remaining items and hit the road. It was only a 45 minute drive but apparently there are a lot of people on the road early morning Saturday... I had no idea. We get there after 6am and we are literally the first handful of people to arrive. I was really ok with that. I left the kids and Scott in the car, grabbed my gear and headed up to registration and transition area. EASY PEASY... except the chips were not ready yet. not a big deal... except when you are doing your first tri and all the details you expect to unfold smoothly don't. I sat on the edge of the pool and dipped my feet in (good thing I did - It was COLD!) Talked with others who were nervous. Went Potty and found out I wasn't the most nervous person there - someone was tossing their cookies in the bathroom...
They told us 15 minutes to race, I kicked off my flip flops and started walking to the pool, except I didn't pick up my feet and rammed my toe into the curb. Um Ouch. I have to give to one of our coaches was deemed last place finisher. She stood in the back of the line with us and calmed our nerves (I was 141 out of 150 racers). Once we got to the starting line I was all nerves and lost my training memory. I jumped in holding my nose (I freaked myself out - we jumped in the deep end and I had practiced jumping shallow). I tried to get my rhythm with my freestyle but at some point I did the back stroke and a frog style move just to make it to the end. I took on a bunch of water and just couldn't pull myself together. The last lap was the best 'cause my cheering squat (Jerry & Jennie Corbin, Scott and the kids) were cheering me on.
Transition 1 - My toe was throbbing and I was soaked. I dried off my feet, pulled my socks on, shoes and started walking my bike to transition. OUCH... once on the bike I got my groove.
Bike - After mile 3, I had caught my breath and settled my nerves from the swim and just pedaled. It was hilly and I used every one of my gears. My left foot went numb... again... but it was my Right Toe that called my name. OUCH.
Transition 2 - Stepping off my bike into Transition 2 was ouchy. When my shoe hit the ground I wanted to cry. I kept going and picked up my drink and started walking.
Run - This "brick" wasn't so bad because of the walk to transition. I started off running but it was up hill and I quickly learned going up hurt worse than going down... so that was my running rule. Run down, Walk up. It was a decently hilly course. I had put nuun tablet (yes - I have used them many time before) in my water and was craving it on the bike... well... lesson learned. electrolytes on bike ride (no breakfast + nerves = hungry once you get going on the bike) and water for the run. I saw some of my Tri 101 buddies out there givin' it their all and was so encouraged to see them out there. I watched other complete strangers going strong and it made me want to cheer them on! There are so many people out there who are my heroes!
Crossing the finish line was an incredible feeling. I Did It. I made a Mountain into a Mole Hill. The goal is attainable. I could hear Lizzie and Scott cheer me on. When I finished Lizzie asked if she could race when she was older.
When I got to transition area - I took off my sock. The evidence was there. OUCH.
Needless to say I'll be resting for the next couple days. Can't decide if it's worth seeing a doctor over. Lesson Learned... Pick up your feet when you are walking barefoot at a race!
I also learned you can do something even with pain.... yay me.
Did I mention I Did It? Swam 200m Biked 8miles Ran 2miles and live to tell the tale!
