Monday was an awesome day! It included a Trip to Brown's Strawberry Farm. Now, I'm not an expert on health, but eating strawberries fresh from the field is not only tasty - but as healthy as I can get a strawberry!
The In-laws came to watch the kids and I had a great evening at the Tri 101 class! I look forward to every week of training but I wasn't looking forward to what we had been warned of - A Brick... Bike then Run... Repeat. We've done this once before and it wasn't so bad. However, from the sounds of others - this was suppose to be awful! Well -The good news. The "brick" legs were not as awful as warned..child birth much worse.... and by the second mile I was proud to say I could have kept going... I'm getting ahead of myself and telling you how much I struggle with running........
We started out with 2 loops (roughly a mile each loop) on bike. I forgot my helmet and Coach Rick lent me his.... (Thank You Kind Sir!). I practiced setting up our "transition" area. I get out there and decide to push it... just to see what it would be like...cause... what better place to practice right? when there are people to pick you up if you fall... unlike when I'm out by myself in the middle of no where! When I first got started I'm sure I got in the way of at least 3 people as I tried to get on my bike... I'm sure the elephant that rides an unicycle had more elegance. I had read in Chrissy Wellington's Book (Until February, I had no idea who she was) that when you are coming in from the bike to your run to gear up and put some intensity into the push so your legs are gearing up for the run... Well... I did just that (first time I forgot to gear down and had a heck of a time starting!) and started on my run and felt GREAT... Brick Legs were not as intense as the last time I practiced... SCORE!
The first run I tried to keep pace with friends and quickly learned I couldn't do it... So, back to the lesson of keeping your own pace - Sarah! Once I did that the side stitches went away and I started feeling stronger.....new feeling for me in the running world! Then I got back on the bike - again with the grace a monkey driving a convertible, and tried to book it. I did ok. I was tired this time around but I found that it helped to keep peddling even when going down hill. When I coasted I lost my timing.
"6 Minutes!" was all I heard as I pulled into the transition area. So off the bike, grabbed my water and started running! This run is the best I felt. I found my feet and cadence immediately. I wasn't fast but I was going forward. I didn't feel like I was falling apart and when I reached the finish line. I felt strong... like I could keep going. Yay for me... Now... to run 3 miles in a row and feel that way! I might actually be able to do this!
This is finally getting easier!
Unfortunately, I came home to Lizzie running a fever. So Tuesday was a no go on anything but my swim lesson (Thank You In-Laws for watching the kids). The swim went well. I was pushed to do more and felt alright about it. I call Lisi Bratcher Jesus of my swim world because without her I'd be lost! She has saved me from drowning myself! If y'all need help in the Huntsville area -she's your girl! I'm a little simple. She was introduced to me as a swim coach but she coaches Swimming Biking and Running! WOOT WOOT!
Tuesday was a day of rest. Jack had soccer but otherwise, we hung out. I took a nap and rested. Lizzie's fever broke in the early morning of Wednesday. So Wednesday is out for a workout (I don't want to get anyone else sick). Thursday, I'll be back at it!
