What I Love About the Bible....

Is that while scriptures in context they mean one thing - since it teaches principles - it can be transferred into all areas of life....

Today 1 Corinthians 15:58 popped up on facebook (yes, you can even hear God through facebook). It was exactly want I needed to hear in all areas of my life but also in my goal to be healthy. The past 2 weeks were not what I wanted them to be. While I've been progressing to my goal, I've been more focused on my faults than my successes! This scripture reminded me where to put my thoughts....
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Now,  training for a sprint triathlon is not necessarily the main focus of "the work of the Lord" but for me, it is.Training for this triathlon is a tool I am using so that I can be more effective at "the world of the Lord". So this is how I hear it...
"Sarah. Stand firm in what you can do. Let nothing move or stop you (including sick kids, indulging in a pint of ice cream or not feelin' it). Give yourself fully to the process of training for the triathlon- work the plan you know to do. BECAUSE you know that the time you put in training is not in a toss away or waste of energy."
I'm guessing Paul wasn't thinking about me trying to be an athlete when he wrote this. but I'm guessing he's be a pleased author to know it's effected people in more ways than the intended expression.
