Oh Saturday!

Today was a very out of the box day for me. I woke up at 5am, out of the house at 5:32am, at the lake by 6:30am and in a very gross lake at 7am. I believe the term was "man eating weeds". If Guntersville Lake was bad, this was disastrous. Lake Guntersville was shallow, rocky and weedy. Goosepond Colony was 8ft deep with 7ft weeds. If one was skilled at Freestyle, it wasn't so bad because your feet were up. If one is not so skilled, your feet were constantly mixing with the weeds. I was not skilled. I had a couple mini panic attacks. Really, anytime I put my face in the water and saw the begin clip from "True Blood", I did a random breast stroke. I started off first in the water and was second last coming to the beach. If that tells you anything of my lack of speed.

Once we got on the beach everyone was rested waiting for me to get out of the water - then it was running 4 miles. Needless to say I was one of the last at starting running and finishing the run. I was pretty proud of myself though, I ran the 4 hilly miles. I slowed down to walk 3 times and stopped and stretched once. That's a great record for me!

I was in the car around 9am and home by 10:15am. What a morning!

I have to say, I am apart of a great group of people. Even with all my fears of open water, they talked me through it, encouraged me and showed me it could be done.  It was so encouraging for me to watch friends and couples encourage each other on. I am so grateful for those who do this (no paycheck) to encourage us/me to exercise and get out, be healthy. It's very overwhelming to think that complete strangers think my health is valuable enough for them to spend time to teach me how to do this!
