Successful Swim Lesson!

Thursday Night I had a swim lesson. It's been about 3 weeks since my first with Lisi Bratcher/TriHuntsville. She has given me the drills to work on and I'm pretty strict at running through them and then if I had energy, I attempt my own freestyle swim and drills given to us by Tri 101. I love drills. They usually include a floatie and I feel safer with a floatie. I love floatation devices.

I had booked the lesson before the kid's soccer schedule was set so I walked into the pool shaking off the guilt of not being there for the kid's practice. I have great fear of angst teens/20's moments of them upset I didn't show up to every game and every practice! Anywho, I got there just a few minutes early and attempted a free style swim on my own. It wasn't bad.

Once we got into the lesson we revisited a few of the drills I did for homework. We added a few new drills. Then we got into timing my swims. The first lesson we timed my attempt at a freestyle swim 25m. My first time was 38.?seconds. Yesterday's time was 30.?seconds. WOOT! An improvement! I was excited by that alone. May not be a great time compared to others but just to see an improvement was satisfying!  At the end of the practice I was timed at 50m. Mine was 1m11.?seconds. I'll take it! The fact that I could actually swim a lap without stopping to take a breath was exciting news! So needless to say my time in the pool is showing progress! I might be able to swim 400m without stopping by June 22nd after all!

This was followed up by the Tri Expo at Fleet Feet. They had reps from different Tri Businesses. I totally bought into CEP Socks.  I'm hoping it will help my calves not hurt after a run. I have the sleeves and those were good about the run but after the run just annoying - the sales rep dude confirmed the sock is needed for recovery... something about compression around the foot is also important. We'll see if it's magic for me. Did I mention Running is my least favorite of the three? I'm hoping the with a little running form modification, I can at least learn to love it!

They also served free beer and snacks (had me at free beer!) and it was great to see people in "real" people clothes and chat about life and sport!

The REAL reason I attended the Tri Expo was early registration for the Tri 102 Training. From the flyer I read, they are only registering 50 people.  The goal is Frantic Frog Sprint Triathlon in Scottsboro, AL with distances of a 400 meter open water swim, 24 k bike and a 5K (3.1 miles) run. So OPEN WATER and LONGER BIKE. I'm so excited I can barely stand it. The water should be "warm" in July/August and I love a bike ride!

My focus today is swimming and spinning. I'm hoping to knock those two out this morning....
